Tangguh is located in one of the most remote corners of the Earth, in the Bird’s Head peninsula, Irian Jaya. The bay is home to small communities of shrimp fisherman and subsistence sago farmers. Managing the environmental and social impacts of Tangguh LNG construction and operation has been a key priority.

Tangguh LNG is a $6 billion jewel in the BP crown. The processing plant will initially consist of two ‘trains’ (producing at least 7.6 million metric tons of LNG a year. Both trains are scheduled to start commercial operations in 2008-2009.

Resettlement Best Practise

In 2004 the villagers of Tanah Merah and Saengga were moved to new homes to make way for the construction of the new LNG facility. This documentary records the intricate planning, construction and move.

HSE Orientation

From first phase of construction Tangguh maximized local employment opportunities for local villagers. For many this was the first time they had been ‘employed’. Safety and Behavior Awareness film was a vital part of project success.
